Another brilliant performance by the messengers recorded live. It features Jimmy Merritt (b), Cedar Walton (p), Curtis Fuller (tb), Wayne Shorter (ts), and Freddie Hubbard (tr). It truly is a "hard bopping" session we hear - and a nice one it is. They all do great here, coming up with such fine-tunes as 'Three Blind Mice' or the uplifting 'Up Jumped Spring' - but I especially like Walton's playing. Just listen to 'That Old Feeling' and how he gets from his intro into the rhythmic pattern or his work on his own piece 'Plexus'. Of course, Blakey is always there to keep things going and keep them going right and full of energy.
